Educators at all levels can use the tablet PC to improve their communication with students.  With the ability to walk around the classroom while showing a presentation, adding notes to a whiteboard, or accessing teaching tools like Blackboard.photo_education.jpg

But don't take our word for it, read how Mr. Kelly Carrier, a Science teacher at Okemos High School uses his tablet PC:

My task or occupation is to teach and I use my tablet everyday to accomplish this task. I teach in a public school and purchased most of the equipment on my own (Toshiba M200, printer, Linksys Presentation). I use it to teach my 9th and 10th grade science class. I have an Epson 1700 lumen projector which is connected to a Linksys WPG54G Presentaion system all mounted to the ceiling. This allows me to wander around the room during lectures and discussions while students take notes. I use the wireless connection to present the notes along with a connection to the internet. I pull down Pics/flash animations to illustrate concepts. Putting the tablet in front of the students allows them to share their answers and thoughts.

During labs (3-4 times a week) I wander around the room and give oral quizzes which I then record instantly in my tablet. I also use it to diagram or illustrate points at a lab station. The night before a test I will post al l the notes to Blackboard where students can then access them if they were absent or wanted to use them to check their own notes. Also, I will use MSN messenger to chat with students. This is awsome because I can draw a picture or write an equation without being hindered by the written word (a picture speaks a thousand words).

In my lectures I use Microsoft Journal and import pictures and diagrams. In addition I will insert Flash animations in Power Point where I can show concepts in action and add notes next to the animation.  For planning, I use MS OneNote especially the sidenote option. I use GoBinder as my calendar and as a place to take notes during meetings.  A major addition to my teaching has been Camtasia, which allows me to create screencasts of notes. Students love being able to fast forward, rewind or pause a lecture and learn at their own pace.  Thanks Tablet PC!!
